"THE GOSPEL" of Jesus Christ

(...which literally means "The Good News")

Here is a fact you may not know: According to God, no one really dies (as in...ceasing to consciously exist). Yes, everyone physically dies, and their body is placed in the ground; but death is really just a doorway from this world to somewhere else. There are only two destinations in 'Eternity', a very real 'Heaven' and a frighteningly real 'Hell'. (Luke 16:19-31; 2 Corinthians 5:8)

The most important question of this life is will you go to Heaven when you die? Jesus says in order to go to Heaven, "you must be born again" (John 3:7). Since no one enters heaven unless they are 'Born Again', it is important to know that you have been Born Again.

First, you must realize that you are not a 'good person' who deserves to go to heaven. You are a sinner, just like me - and your sins have separated you from God so that He will not hear you (Isaiah 59:2). "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). God gave you a conscience so you would know the difference between right and wrong (Romans 2:14-16). Because you have willingly chosen to do that which you knew was wrong, and sinned against God, you are condemned to die. "The wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23).

DID YOU KNOW? There are verses in the Bible that many churches don't teach, and most people have never heard. For instance, did you know that God's Word says that God is a 'righteous judge' who is ANGRY with sinners every day (Psalm 7:11), and that we are "storing up wrath" for the day of judgment? (Romans 2:5) Most people think God loves all men, and there is a sense in which that is true; but God's Word actually says that God "hates" sinners (Psalm 5:5). Most people think that all people are the 'children of God', just because He created them, but God says that sinners are not 'children of God', but are in fact 'children of the Devil' (John 8:44; 1 John 3:10).

"And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment" (Hebrews 9:27)

There is no such thing as reincarnation. Purgatory is the figment of a Catholic pope's imagination. It does not exist, and is found nowhere in the Bible. There is no second chance after you die. There is no "Get out of Hell Free" card. At the moment of death, one's eternal fate is sealed. That is why God's Word says with urgency, "Now is 'the acceptable time,' behold, now is 'the day of salvation'" (2 Corinthians 6:2). No one is guaranteed tomorrow.

Your sins have also earned you an eternal separation from God (2 Thessalonians 1:9), in a place of torment called Hell (2 Peter 2:4). God has promised not to leave the guilty person unpunished (Exodus 34:7), and He "will render to each person according to his deeds" (Romans 2:6). We are ALL guilty. For instance, we have all have lied, and God's Word says ALL liars will have their part in the 'Lake of Fire' (Revelation 21:8).

"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8)

God laid the sins of all those who Repent of their sins and Trust in Jesus upon His own Son (the spotless Lamb of God), and He then suffered and died taking the full wrath of God in our place (1 Peter 2:24).

The question is: "What must I do to be saved?" (Acts 16:30b)

The answer: Repent and Believe in (or Trust in) Jesus Christ as the only one who bore your sins, suffered and died in your place, was buried, and whom God resurrected from the dead (Acts 2:38; 3:19; John 3:16).

Jesus declared, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; Repent and Believe in the gospel." (Mark 1:15)

"God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent" (Acts 17:30b). To 'Repent' means to turn away from your sins and toward God. It requires that you humbly agree with God that you are a guilty sinner, deserving of Hell, and in desperate need of a Savior (James 4:6).

Christ's resurrection powerfully assures us that we can claim everlasting life when Jesus is our Savior (Romans 1:4; 4:25). "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name" (John 1:12)

"Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:13) Turn and Believe, and you will be saved. No church or good works can save you, God alone does the saving to the glory of His Holy Name (Ephesians 2:8-9).

You should be baptized in obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ, as a public testimony of your salvation, and then unite with a Bible-believing church (Acts 2:38). "Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven." (Matthew 10:32)

Your soul is worth more to you than the entire world. "For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?" (Mark 8:36) Be sure you are saved - make sure you have been Born Again (2 Corinthians 13:5).

When you are Born Again, you are forever changed on the inside - and you will know it. "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come."

"And I will give them one heart, and put a new spirit within them. And I will take the heart of stone out of their flesh and give them a heart of flesh, that they may walk in My statutes and keep My ordinances and do them. Then they will be My people, and I shall be their God. But as for those whose hearts go after their detestable things and abominations, I will bring their conduct down on their heads," declares the Lord God. (Ezekiel 11: 19-21)

Jesus described the new birth like this, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." (John 3:5-6)

Ezekiel explained what this means. Born of water means to be washed clean. It means to be forgiven of your sins, and given the righteousness of Christ (Ezekiel 36:25). Born of the Spirit means to given a new, spiritually alive, heart (Ezekiel 36:26). Then, God the Holy Spirit enters the heart of the believer to dwell there forever (Ezekiel 36:27).

"Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are." (1 Corinthians 3:16-17)

You cannot 'feel' it when you are made Born Again, nor feel the presence of the Holy Spirit, but you are forever changed by it. Like being miraculously healed of blindness, you begin to see everything differently. You realize that you have been wrong about almost everything. Your heart has been changed by someone other than you, and you know it. You begin to love the good things that you once hated (like Church, Bible study, and Christian fellowship), and you begin to hate the sinful things that you once loved. Your love for your sin is gone, and you now love obeying God - even though you can only do it imperfectly.

But Beware! You are not saved by a mere profession of faith, nor by any other act that you can perform. It is possible to make an empty profession of faith. It is possible to look good to everyone that you know, while not truly seeing your sins as worthy of Hell, and never truly Repenting. Jesus warned time and again about these self-deceived people (Matthew 7:21-23; Matthew 13:18-23; 24-30; 36-43; 47-51; 25:1-13; 31-46). They claim to know Christ, but he does NOT know them. I am sorry to say that most professing "Christians", and even entire "churches", show no Biblical signs of actually being saved (see 1 John). According to the Bible, most professing "Christians" are still very much in danger of the fires of Hell themselves. They certainly cannot help you or anyone else. These unredeemed "Christians" are the source of much of the hypocrisy that people see in the church.

Jesus said, "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.'" (Matthew 7:21-23)

So I beg you, carefully consider your sins against God until they make you weep. Consider how kind He has been to you in spite of how you've lived. Consider the blessings He has poured out on you. Let the sorrow for your sins drive you to humble Repentance, and saving Faith. Do not turn to God because you are afraid of Hell (though you SHOULD be afraid of Hell), but turn to Him because of His great kindness and love. He crushed His own Son that you might live! He is a good God! Trust Him! Call on Him! Proclaim Him to others! He alone is worthy of your worship and your love!

If you are willing to do these things, God will forgive you, and make you righteous in His Son. He will adopt you as a child of God. No one will enter heaven unless they are spotlessly righteous. Jesus Christ is the only way for a sinner to be forgiven and made righteous. ALL other paths lead to destruction. Even the ones that are almost right.

"Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." (Matthew 11:28)

Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me." (John 14:6)
